ROSA Update - August 5,2001
<-Previous Next

As you know, the Board of Finance recently approved the financing needed to acquire, by negotiated purchase or eminent domain, the entire 613-acre Bennett's Pond property. The northern parcel (458 acres) will be acquired for open space, recreation and other municipal purposes, and the southern parcel (155 acres) for corporate and/or other municipal purposes under a statute that requires the creation of an Economic Development Commission.

Several public hearings and town meeting votes are required before a town-wide referendum on the acquisition can be held in late September. A no vote at any of these town meetings could derail the process and would be a major setback to our efforts.

The first of these meetings will take place this WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8th at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Hall Lower Level Conference Room (400 Main St.) to discuss and vote on a proposed ordinance to create the required Economic Development Commission.

Your attendance on Wednesday night to vote in favor of the proposed ordinance is essential. Although corporate development is not in keeping with our often-stated preferences for the use of the southern parcel, ROSA supports this ordinance because we believe that the future of this important land must be determined by the people of Ridgefield, and not by out-of-state developers.

There may be opposition to this proposed ordinance by those misguided individuals who continue to side with the developers against us and our own town government. Please plan to attend the public hearing/town meeting on WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8th and vote "Yes" to the creation of the Ridgefield EDC.

Thank you for your continued support!
