The P&Z public hearing on the developers' proposal for the Bennetts Ponds property has been scheduled for June 1 at 7:45 p.m. in the Cleves Auditorium, Veteran's Park School. The public notice will appear in the Press this week. The documentation submitted by the developers in support of their petitions for a change in zoning regulations, and a re-zone of Lynette Burton's former property is available at the Planning & Zoning Office in the Annex. (It fills two 3-ring binders). The public may examine this material during normal business hours and may request copies of any or all of the information (they charge .25 per copy). If you have a chance, we encourage you to take a look at this material, including the maps and "Concept Plan" to get a better idea of the impact this development would have on our town. Our concerns will be primarily focused on traffic, sewage, pollution, drinking water, impact on the watershed and wildlife, taxes, and school crowding. We will provide you with additional details of our perspective on these issues as the date of the hearing approaches. The regulations proposed by Eureka are obviously tailored exactly to their concept plan, so it is imperative that their changes, as proposed, are rejected by the P&Z. We encourage everyone to attend this critical public hearing. If you would like to speak at the hearing, please bring a copy of the text of your statement so that it can be included in the public record. If you would prefer not to speak, or know you cannot attend, you can submit a letter to the P&Z before the hearing and it will be read by the Town Planner during the hearing and be included in the public record. If you have any specific questions regarding the hearing process, or Eureka's proposal, please contact us. Thank you for your continued interest and concern. Ellen Burns P.S.: In case any of you missed it, we've added a letter written by Selectman Mike Jones regarding the Bennetts Ponds property which appeared in last week's Ridgefield Press to our site. This letter pretty much sums it up. |
