Your attendance at this Annual Town Meeting is vital! In addition to the somewhat perfunctory vote to send the town and school budgets to referendum, there will be a vote taken to add two advisory questions to the May 15 ballot. The exact text of the questions will be published in the Ridgefield Press this week, but the content of the two questions is
as follows:
- To advise the Board of Selectmen and Board of Finance to acquire by negotiated purchase or eminent domain the entire Bennett's Pond parcel within Ridgefield's borders (613 acres).
- If the above question is defeated, to advise the Board of Selectmen and Board of Finance to acquire by negotiated purchase or eminent domain the Bennett's Pond parcel within Ridgefield's borders which lies north of Bennett's Farm Road. (458 acres).
It is very important that you be there on MONDAY NIGHT to vote in favor of BOTH of these advisory questions, so that they will appear on the May 15 referendum ballot! These questions are not "either/or" - the second question will only come into play if the first question is defeated. Therefore it is important to vote YES on both questions.
The Town Meeting held on April 25 went very well for open space advocates - there were 37 speakers, and only 9 were opposed. The 28 who spoke in favor (and in opposition to Eureka's "Compromise Plan") offered heartfelt and eloquent statements in support of their positions. We are very grateful to all of you who spoke, and to those of you who came and provided your support through your presence and applause.
Please be sure to be there on MONDAY, MAY 7th to vote in favor of the two advisory questions!
Thank you so much for your continued support!
